Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka and several party leaders were detained by Assam Police in Guwahati ahead of a planned regional meeting on Sunday.
Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the police action was an illegal act after members were picked up from private property without being informed of the grounds. Ranka claimed that when they asked the police for reasons, the officers only stated they had orders from above. Around 30 CJP workers were detained near the Assam Secretariat before the scheduled meeting.
Ranka asserted that the more the government suppresses them, the more the revolution will spread. Following his release, Ranka stated that the organisation is preparing for a proposed October 2 protest over the Special Intensive Revision exercise and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party also plans to raise local student, youth, flood, and regional issues in Assam and other Northeastern states.
